Sierra did a wonderful job teaching. She is personable and seems comfortable with teaching. I've done watercolors for years but have been in a creative rut. This class taught me a major key to effectively using watercolors and I am so happy I decided to sign up.

I?m a creative person at heart ? I love to upcycle and repurpose things into art. I?m also a soprano, amateur artist both watercolor and acrylics, a Sac State grad and longtime Sacramento County resident. I took my first painting classes in 1994, the year we got married, and over the years have taken different types of classes both in person and online. This past July, I started taking in-person watercolor classes at a local studio. I love that each week I get to take home a finished piece and

I almost threw this away. Sometimes I have a hard time "pushing through" a painting that I am doing. I'm tempted to stop and say "this is not good, I won't finish it, it's awful". I painted the sky background a year ago and the painting just sat in a corner. One day I decided to just "play" with this piece of paper and I loved what happened! Quite often I find that I need to let my artwork just cook in a corner. Every once in a while I surprise myself!

After I had joint replacement surgery on my left thumb, my dominant hand, I still wanted to paint. I thought that I'd just play with color using my right hand to wield the brush. To my amazement, I painted with more spontaneity and with a looseness I've been trying to achieve before. Maybe I'm ambidextrous and have only just discovered it (I'm 76).

Title or Location: Twilight in Penarth
I used to live in Penarth, and find it an interesting town by the sea, with lovely shopping, eclectic coffee shops, parks, and of course the wonderful pier. I am also fascinated by the wonderful lamps in Britain and beyond, their history and intricate designs. Hence this lovely lamp, taken from its neighbours, to stand proud and alone, but with the outline of the pier behind to illustrate its context of Penarth.
